Warning: Major spoilers ahead for "Game of Thrones" season six.

Sunday's "Game of Thrones" episode shattered expectations with a series of revelations and deaths surrounding Bran Stark. First, we learned a great deal about the White Walkers and their origin. It turns out the Children of the Forest created them back when men first invaded Westeros, threatening the Children's existence in the process.

But then Bran decided to do more greenseeing without the help of Bloodraven, and saw the Night's King and his army. In a weird crossover of magical abilities, the Night's King was able to see Bran and touch his arm. This "marking" enabled the White Walkers and wights to enter Bloodraven's cave, killing Bran's direwolf Summer, the Children, Bloodraven, and finally — Hodor.

"I have never been more upset by a death in 'Game of Thrones,'" one Redditor said about Hodor. "I mean [the Red Wedding] was sad, but the whole scene with younger Hodor screaming and shaking 'Hold the door' while the older one is dying doing the same, it made me tear up a bit."

Hodor close up Game of Thrones HBOAs Hodor died in the present, Bran accidentally warged the past-Hodor (a young boy named Wylis) into his future self. The scene flashed between grown-up Hodor dying and younger Hodor experiencing his own death while yelling "hold the door."

People on Twitter were having a meltdown, too. Between Summer AND Hodor's deaths, this was a tearjerker ending.

Brutal (and shocking) deaths aside, the episode's events confirmed that Bran can alter timelines of the past. We also learned that Bran is actually the one responsible for making Hodor, well, "Hodor."

We'll have to wait until next week to see if Meera and Bran are able to find a safe shelter elsewhere. In the meantime, fans will mourn for Hodor — the gentlest of giants in Westeros.
